Renaissance is both a continuation of Middle-Ages progress in Science, Technology and Arts. It is also a break, voluntarily explicit as such by its authors.

Renaissance is said to be the beginning of modern times.

Albrecht Durer uses etching to give a new generative dimension of graphic arts : from an original (wood or metal) engraving, get many copies.

The printing process is a step in fragmentation inside the creation process. The direct relation betwen the author (writer, painter) and the work is now cut, and replaced by a series of steps, with an intermediary "original" (lead types, metal etching), used by an ulterior reproduction process (the press).
