Explicit emergence of the machine
1.3.1. Machine is at the same time admired and disputed
Renaissance is both a continuation of Middle-Ages progress in Science, Technology and Arts. It is also a break, voluntarily explicit as such by its authors.
Renaissance is said to be the beginning of modern times.
1.3.2. Writing and printing
Index of digital artists of the period.
Francis Bacon is a major thinker of the time, mainly in his Organon (1630).
Albrecht Durer uses etching to give a new generative dimension of graphic arts : from an original (wood or metal) engraving, get many copies.
The printing process is a step in fragmentation inside the creation process. The direct relation betwen the author (writer, painter) and the work is now cut, and replaced by a series of steps, with an intermediary "original" (lead types, metal etching), used by an ulterior reproduction process (the press).
