Eric Wenger, a Software Creator
Eric Wenger was born in 1961 in Montpellier, France. He graduates from the National Superior School of Decorative Arts (Ensad) in Paris in 1986, Atelier AII, where he specializesin computer graphics. He then works as a multimedia artist and software creator.
Inspired by Benoît Mandelbrot's and the fractal's phenomenon, he chooses to develop his proprietary computing tools which allow him to realize his visual creations. His first major appearance on the software scene dates back to the nineties, with Art Mixer, an image editing and creation software. Prior to that, he also releases a graphics program called GraphistPaint and an animation tool VideoPaint. The digital magazine(review) Sonovision and Pixel follow its works.
He reaches one global notoriety with the software Bryce 3D in 1994, winner of over 20 awards, making it easy for non-professionals to quickly and intuitively create and render virtual landscapes. To develop the program, he teams up with Kai Krause and Phil Clevenger, who work with him on the design of the user interface. The product was originally published in the United States by MetaCreations.
In 1997, he moves to San francisco (California). The software publishing company U&I softwaresoftware produces his software creations and ranges, from audio creation softwares to high-end visual creation software. MetaSynth, published in 1998 in California, is considered a tool of sound design and music creation foreground. Based on the concept of transformation of visual information into sound, MetaSynth, winner of 6 awards, brings a major revolution in the field of computer music and is used as support in many American universities and French institutions as Ircam.
Xx algorithmic composition tool follows late 1990s.
After 2000, he creates Artmatic, a modular visual synthesis program originally intended to be a source of textures and video effects that soon became an animation tool used by VJs, visual artists and animators for computer graphics, music videos and artistic applications.
Another accompanying program published by U&I is ArtMatic Voyager, a 3D landscape rendering software that uses procedural technologies to create entire planets, cities and fractals. ArtMatic & ArtMatic Voyager are still evolving and new versions are about to go out.
Among its various artistic and musical activities, he co-composes and produces the music for the film Dante01 of Marc Caro in 2006 and often works with the French contemporary artist Miguel Chevalier. He also creates live visuals for the composer Michel Redolfi underwater concert Ars Electronica in Linz (Liquid City 1996) and Wonders of the Abyss (Boulogne -sur -Mer 2012).
In 2010 and 2011, he is is invited for the Nuit Blanche - Voisimages and at the Cube 2011 with an Immersive and Visual creation Concert 3D real time.
In November 2012 he directeS and realizes with Marie Laure Requet a live video mapping of 60 meters wide presented in Qatar for the opening of a series of hotels in Souq Waqif in Doha.
He is also a music composer and worked with several singers, as Zorheh Khaleghi, from Iran, Irina Mikhailova or Michaela Velasquez. He published 4 album with the californian label "Asylum Arts" : MetaTech, Spectrum Scapes , An Mil , Misteriosa (El SIlencio Blanco).
His video art and 3D animation shorts include the DVD by numbers videos published in France in 2004, Worlds (2009), Geomorph (2010)", Kleinian dreams (2012) , Liquid stones and Frequences phase pixels (2013) in collaboration with Miguel chevalier.
In 2016, he takes part in Exit (MDA Créteil, Ile de France) He develops the Avat 2016 and is one of the three international designer artists selected to project a videomapping creation in Dubai on the façade of the Burj Khalifa, the biggest tower of the world. With his Pattern Dance he revisits Islamic Arabesque art, using animated and generative computer technology with its own software.
