Zajega: Opera Stage-setting in Korea

"I am proud to announce my first direction of an the opera, “Futari Shizuka - The Maiden from the Sea”, the latest opera of the famous Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa. It will take place the 29, 30 & 31 of March 2019, at the Tongyeong International Music Festival, one of the most important musical events of South Corea.

"Western and Eastern traditions meet, mixing the codes of Noh theater and contemporary opera, in order to give shape to the unique story of the encounter of an ancient Japanese ghost with a young refugee.

"I am also signing the set design and video, with the collaboration of the Belgium artist Francois Zajega for the generative and interactive video. The conductor will be Ms. Shiyeon Sung from Japan, the mesmerizing German soprano Sarah Wegener will be Helen and the ghost of Lady Shizuka will be unbodied by the exceptional Ryoko Aoki, Japanese Noh singer and dancer.
